FFFA Voluntary MFG Classification System

Voluntary Chemical Fire Suppression Agent Product Labeling

All Fluorine Compound Containing Fire Fighting Suppression Products Shall have affixed to them a Note in a 3”x 5” label identifying one of the following:

1. “This Product contains both Long Chain and Short Chain Fluorine       Compounds which may or may not be implicated as a potential cause of       cancer through the ingestion or exposure via environmental or direct       exposure.”
2. “This Product contains Long Chain Fluorine Compounds which may or may not be implicated as a potential cause of cancer through the ingestion or exposure via environmental or direct exposure.”
3. “This Product contains Short Chain Fluorine Compounds which may or may not be implicated as a potential cause of cancer through the ingestion or exposure via environmental or direct exposure.”

Nature of the Hazard Labeling

An additional 3” x 5” Label will delineate the following.

1. Class 4 Fluorine Containing Fire Fighting Suppression Agent -
   1. This product contains Fluorine Compounds in Excess of 50 ppm as identified by the PIGE test method represents a high risk of environmental contamination and the potential for bioaccumulation which can be hazardous to living organisms and should never be used in watershed areas or any body of water unless the fire hazard supersedes the environmental risks.
   2. Use of this product invokes the mandatory use of a hazmat remediation team and contact of the Federal regulator agency EPA and state and regulatory agency.
2. Class 3 Fluorine Containing Fire Fighting Suppression Agent -
   1. This product contains Fluorine Compounds between 50 ppm and 1 ppm as identified by the PIGE test method represents a low to moderate risk of environmental contamination and the potential for bioaccumulation which can be hazardous to living organisms.
   2. Use of this product requires the mandatory notification of the Federal regulatory agency EPA and state and regulatory agency to evaluate       Environmental and Human hazard exposures.
3. Class 2 Fluorine Containing Fire Fighting Suppression Agent - 
   1. This product contains Fluorine Compounds between than 1 ppm and 1000 ppb and represents a low risk of environmental contamination and the potential for bioaccumulation which can be hazardous to living organisms.
   2. Use of this product requires the mandatory notification of the state and Federal regulatory agency to evaluate Environmental and Human hazard exposures.
4. Class 1 Fluorine Containing Fire Fighting Suppression Agent - 
   1. This product contains Fluorine Compounds between than 1000 ppb and 100 ppb and represents a low risk of environmental contamination and the potential for bioaccumulation which can be hazardous to living organisms.
   2. Use of this product requires the mandatory notification of a state and Federal regulatory agency only in the use of a watershed area.
5. Class 0 Fluorine Containing Fire Fighting Suppression Agent  
   1. This product contains Fluorine Compounds Less than 100 ppb and more than 1000ppt represents limited risk of environmental contamination or the potential for bioaccumulation in living organisms.
   2. Use of this product requires no mandatory notification of any regulatory agency.

           6. Class 00 Fluorine Containing Fire Fighting Suppression Agent  

1. This product contains Fluorine Compounds Less than 1000 ppt and more than 100 ppt represents limited risk of environmental contamination or the potential for bioaccumulation in living organisms.
2. Use of this product requires no mandatory notification of any regulatory  agency.
